The short explanation of this alert was:

This week, the House is expected to consider the "Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act" (HR 3), a bill that would commit federal dollars to lifesaving science. This legislation, which has strong bipartisan support, would reverse President Bush's 2001 policy restricting embryonic stem cell research. In the last Congress, this bill passed both the House and Senate but was vetoed by the President. Researchers believe that embryonic stem cells have broad healing capabilities for an array of debilitating diseases. For example, stem cells may be able to reverse muscle damage incurred from a heart attack by generating new muscle cells; or, they may be able to replace the specialized brain cells lacking in a patient with Parkinson's disease. Funding for this research could lead the way to cures for these and other devastating conditions, including Alzheimer's, diabetes, spinal cord injuries, strokes, burns, heart disease, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
