Despite overwhelming scientific evidence and the recommendations of the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) own advisory panels, acting director Andrew von Eschenbach is delaying a decision on whether to make Plan B emergency contraception available over the counter. Plan B is a safe and effective way to ensure against pregnancy, if taken as prescribed. And if it were widely available, it would cut down on the number of abortions and assist rape victims. Lobbying by right-wing anti-choice groups, however, has derailed what would ordinarily be a straight-forward decision based on science.
