No More Back-Stepping: Eliminate Abstinence-Only Funding
During consideration of legislation to reform health care, the Senate Finance Committee voted to restore $50 million for the Title V (five) abstinence-only program. This ineffective and dangerous program which provided funds to states for abstinence-only programs had been rejected by nearly half of US governors. Additionally, President Obama had eliminated funding for the program in his fiscal year 2010 budget. For the finance committee to add back the Title V money was a serious step backwards. Now, the Senate must eliminate this dangerous program before it prevents more young people around this country from accessing the information they need to make safe and responsible life decisions.
