The Missouri House of Representatives will soon debate HB 46, a bill that establishes burdensome and unnecessary requirements to the already onerous informed consent procedure for abortion in Missouri. In addition, the legislation would create a new crime of "coercing an abortion," a provision that threatens women's access to safe and legal abortion services. Not only does this bill do nothing to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, it actually undermines the doctor-patient relationship that is so critical to quality health care.
