Stop Dangerous Cuts to Missouri's Human Needs Programs
Soon, the Missouri House Budget Committee will debate a proposed $354 million in spending cuts to the state budget. These harmful cuts will come out of the very programs and services that need the money the most in this difficult economic time: health care programs for children and parents, children's services, adoption resources, community mental health services, funding for senior citizens programs, child care programs, and child abuse prevention. Spending cuts could be avoided if the Missouri General Assembly was willing to accept federal dollars to stabilize state services during the recession. To date, leaders in Jefferson City have said they are not interested in that recovery money.
