Tell Missouri Lawmakers to Promote Economic Recovery
This week, the Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee will debate the state budget for the coming fiscal year. When the House considered the budget earlier this month, they did not do enough to promote shared economic recovery. Now, as leaders in the State Senate are considering their budget, there is again pressure to balance the budget by cutting crucial human needs programs -- programs that are more important in this current economic climate than ever before. Spending cuts to health care, child care, education, and nutrition programs will be devastating to Missouri's working families and will do nothing to restore economic prosperity to the state. These cuts can be avoided if the Missouri General Assembly accepts federal dollars to stabilize state services during the recession.
