The short explanation of this alert was:

Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) often use inaccurate and deceptive advertising, suggesting that they provide abortion and/or family planning services and referrals, when in fact they do not. A 2006 congressional report found that 87% of the centers studied "provided false or misleading information about the health effects of abortion." All of the centers in the study receive federal funding.

Further, women who have mistakenly visited CPCs report being harassed and intimidated about their reproductive health choices. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) recently introduced the Stop Deceptive Advertising for Women's Services Act (S 2793), which would require the Federal Trade Commission to develop and enforce rules prohibiting deceptive advertising of abortion services.
