We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit the NCJW Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was:
In July 2008, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) quietly added the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to the list of required vaccinations for all immigrant women and girls between the ages of 11 and 26 applying to either adjust their immigration status or to obtain visas to enter the US. Currently, the HPV vaccine is not a required vaccination for US citizens. And, at a cost of at least $360 for the three shot regimen, it is out of reach for many immigrant women and their families. This out-of-pocket cost is in addition to the more than $2,000 many families pay in US naturalization fees. Furthermore, requiring these women to vaccinate themselves and their daughters eliminates their ability to make the choices that are best for their families.
