Dawn Johnsen, President Obama's nominee to serve as Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Council, may soon get a confirmation vote in the US Senate. Ms. Johnsen's nomination received a favorable vote from the Senate Judiciary Committee in March 2009. However, a vote to confirm her in the full Senate was blocked by senators who oppose her appointment because she worked to defend women's reproductive choices at NARAL Pro-Choice America and because she actively opposed the torture policies of the previous administration. Earlier this year, President Obama re-nominated Ms. Johnsen and on March 4, 2010 the Senate Judiciary Committee again voted to confirm her.
