Tell the Senate: the Justice Department Needs Dawn Johnsen
Soon, the full Senate will vote on Dawn Johnsen’s nomination to be Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) at the Department of Justice. If confirmed, Professor Johnsen will make recommendations and decisions about civil rights and liberties on a range of issues, including: criminal justice, torture, voting rights, and immigration. It is imperative that this leadership position be filled by someone with the experience and expertise to run an efficient and effective office, and someone with the moral character and proven ethical record to run an honest and just office. On March 19, 2009, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved her nomination by a party-line vote.
