Tell the Senate: Missouri's Children Deserve Health Care
This week, the Missouri Senate will debate the Social Services Appropriations Bill (HB 11), legislation that will fund health, mental health, and social services in the state of Missouri. Currently, the bill being considered includes funding for a number of vital programs that saw their budgets cut by the Missouri House. However, the Senate version still does not provide funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). In contrast, Governor Nixon set aside $22.7 million to support access to health care for 27,000 children from low income families in his budget proposal. If the Missouri legislature does not act to include this money, Governor Nixon's goal to ensure that all Missouri children have access to health care will not be achieved.
