We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit the NCJW Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was:
To date, the US government has spent more than $1.3 billion in taxpayer dollars on three separate abstinence-only-until-marriage programs. The largest of these three incomplete and biased programs, the Community-Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) program, received just under $100 million in fiscal year 2009. Fortunately, as a result of pressure from NCJW and other advocates, President Obama proposed eliminating this funding in his fiscal year 2010 budget. Soon, the House Appropriations Committee, led by Congressman David Obey (D-WI), will decide whether or not to follow the President’s lead and eliminate funding for CBAE in the fiscal year 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill.
