Urge Halt to Action on Controversial Judicial Nominees
Recently, President Bush invited all of his pending judicial nominees to a breakfast at the White House where he attacked the Senate for inaction on these and other nominees. This accusation flies in the face of the facts -- in reality, the Senate has confirmed nearly 300 of the president's nominees to the federal courts, including 57 circuit court judges and two Supreme Court justices. Many of these nominees had records of extreme views on core constitutional rights. Further, President Bush has refused to follow precedent and work with home-state senators to nominate moderates who meet with their approval. Among the pending judicial nominees are individuals with extreme right-wing views, those with little experience, and others whose records are largely unknown.
