Protect Contraceptive Access: Increase Funding for Title X
Congress will soon begin work on the fiscal year 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill, legislation that will include funding for Title X (ten), the nation’s family planning program. For more than 30 years, Title X has provided contraceptive and related reproductive health care services. This successful program funds clinics that provide high-quality contraceptive services and other preventive health care to low-income individuals who would otherwise lack access to these important health care services. Each year, Title X serves more than five million low-income women and men at 4,500 clinics nationwide. Unfortunately, this vital program is significantly under-funded. With the rising cost of contraceptives and health care services, Title X needs more money to continue to provide low-income women with the high-quality care for which it has become known.
